Frameworks of understanding for sustainable change: An exploration of Norwegian sustainability research and politics

Background

Despite the numerous multilateral negotiations, agreements, and strategies aimed at promoting the transition to a more sustainable society, we see little results that are in line with global commitments. It is becoming increasingly clear that technological development and "business-as-usual" are not sufficient to address the climate and environmental crisis, and that more comprehensive changes are necessary.

About the project

This doctoral project, focusing on Norway, aims to map various frameworks of understanding tied to sustainable change and explore how these circulate between the research community and policymaking. The goal is to shed light on how different assumptions, values, and paradigms define what knowledge is considered useful and valuable in the pursuit of a more sustainable society, and how this affects the ability to implement transition.

This is a doctoral project conducted by Øyvind Sæta Sundet at the Center for Development and Environment at the University of Oslo. The project is affiliated with the thematic resource group RESULTS.
